She awoke one night to silence
The darkness of the night lay thick
Like a heavy blanket of despair
Covering her lost and wounded soul.
He smiled into the darkness
Eyes glowing from an internal furnace
Gliding slowly through the inky soup
Drawn to the young changeling's heat.
She felt the presence of another
Fear pressed tight against her breast
Yet not one sound did escape
Not one cry, one plead, one moan.
He drank in her youth and beauty
Excitement fed by her fear and silent tears
Milky white hand, palm extended
Could he claim his prize this night?
She felt the soft brush of his hand
Auburn hair, curls captured in steel bands
She gasped as he pulled her forward
Like a knife her terror stabbed his heart.
He frozen as he felt her sight form stiffen
Confused he pulled his hand away
Tears glistened on marble cheeks
A step back from her warmth he made.
She reached to catch his velvet sleeve
Gliding forward now as if floating on air
Like steel bands her arms embraced him
As she lowered her head to drink.
Too late he understood and wept
As his un-life drained into her veins
How could he ever have guessed
That the Hunter had become the Prey.
